Market Shopping

On a Friday morning once in a while,

I like to go out and shop in style,

Of course my style may not be yours,

I like to go to market stores,

My favourite market of the lot,

Is Machane Yehuda which has got,

Anything you may care to want to buy,

The stalls exposed to the open sky,

The smells so sweet of fresh fruit and veg,

And herbs, spices and pickles with an edge,

Just as varied as the products sold there,

Are the peddlers selling their unique ware,

Middle Eastern and Arab, old and young

American, and European, nationalities far flung,

Mirroring the customers of all types as well,

With their kaleidoscope of bags under the spell,

Of this place full of sounds, tastes and history,

Lending the commonplace food a pinch of mystery,

No ordinary market, the Jerusalem one is extra special and great,

Because it is a place with a soul freely feeding your spiritual plate.
