Drain Tops

If you aren’t careful you’ll get a fright,

When walking in the dark of night,

Unless you want to fall deep into a drain,

To join the mud and the watery rain,

When strolling the streets of a South African town,

You must always remember to keep looking down,

The drains are many on each street,

The problem is they’re not complete,

They are open without a cover,

Which unhappily you may discover,

It’s not that they were made this way,

But they were stolen by the light of day,

What a waste for drain covers of iron real,

When they could be platters for cooking a meal,

So the covers were emancipated for culinary use,

Whilst draining unsuspecting pedestrians presumably footloose.
