Kidnapping Is Not Okay

Can you hear them crying, trying to be strong,

Sobbing for their mummies, sobbing for how long,

Can you hear their cries, blown by the wind to you?

If you aren’t listening, then listen now, please do,

Snatched into a nightmare, children playing centre stage,

Pawns, objects of their terrorist captors rage,

Today these boys should be learning in school,

Tired from late night watching of world cup football,

Today these boys should be texting on their phones,

Exams, homework the only valid reason for moans,

Today these boys should be dressed in clothes clean,

Seeing their families, friends and likewise being seen,

Today these boys should be laughing playing games, playing,

Instead of being terrified, pleading for their lives praying,

Today these boys should have left home with a mother’s kiss,

Instead of yearning, as it dawns on them all they have to miss,

Today these boys, all three of them should just be kids,

And not the source of unacceptable demands and bids,

These three boys are children of the world, also yours,

And we all should ensure that there are red lines and laws,

That all kidnapping is wrong, no legitimization, no depends,

No buts, no ifs, no becauses, no justifiable ends,

Can you hear them shouting, screaming, and shaking,

A nightmare not ending with daylight and waking,

Can you hear their cries, blown by the wind to you?

If you aren’t listening, then listen now, please do.

I would appreciate it if you could share this important message. Thank you.
